HISTORY
OF THE CINCINNATI BENGALS The
Bengal were founded in 1968, as the 10th team of the AFL. Their first head coach
and current general manager, was Paul Brown, the former great coach of Cleveland.
Paul Robinson led the AFL in rushing and was named the leagues' rookie of the
year in Cincinnati's first season. The next year , rookie quarterback Gregg Cook
led the AFL in passing; however, his brilliant career was cut short by a serious
shoulder injury. Under Brown's tutelage, the Bengals made the payoffs in the 1970s
and 1980s - Ken Anderson - became the first player ever to lead the NFL in passing
in consecutive years 2 times (1974-75 and 1981-82). The Bengals have twice played
in the Super Bowl, Both times being edged by San Francisco. | |
