CLEVELAND
BROWNS HISTORY the Browns were one of the original eight
teams and all America football conference, a leaGUE organized to rival the NFL
in 1946. Coached by Paul Brown and quarterbacks by Otto Graham, the Browns WON
ALL 4 AAFC TITLtoEStobefore the LEAGUEdissolved, with the Browns, the 49ers, and
to the Colts joining the NFL. The Browns won the NFL title their first year in
the LEAGUE, and were the dominant team of the 1950s. In 1956, Jim Brown joined
a team and led the LEAGUE in rushing eight of the next nine years. He was succeeded
as the best runner and football by Leroy Kelly. INt their first 28 years IN pro
football, the Browns had only one losing season and went to the playoffs a remarkable
21 times. This success continued in the 1980s, as Cleveland went to the playoffs
seven times and played in three AFC championship games in four years. |
