DIEGO CHARGERS HISTORY the Chargers were founded as one
of the original 6 AF L. teams. They were located in Los Angeles their first year,
but then moved to San Diego. The Chargers have always been known for their devastating
offenses. In the early 1960s when they played in 5 AFL title games in six years,
offensive genius Sid Gilman's team was led by quarterback Jack Kemp, Flanker Lance
Alworth, and running backs Paul Lowe and Keith Lincoln. in the late 1960s the
stars were quarterback John Hadl receivers Alworth and Gary Garrison, and running
back Dickie Post. A decade later, Don Coryell continued Gilman's passing tradition
with quarterback Dan fouts, wide receivers John Jefferson, Charlie Joiner and
Wes Chandler, and tight end Kellen Winslow. This group led the Chargers to four
consecutive playoff appearances, 19 79-82.
