COWBOYS HISTORY the Cowboys joined the NFL in 1960, and
its basic brain trust to not change for more than two decades: owner Clint Murchison,
president/general manager Tex Schramm, personal director Gil Brandt, and"
should Tom landry. Although the Cowboys did not participate in the NFL draft their
first year(because they joined the lead to late), they still managed to obtain
to star college players who would be their offensive leaders throughout the 1960s:
quarterback Don Meredith and fullback Don Perkins. Landry quickly developed the
most explosive offense in the NFL, and in 1966 and 1967 the Cowboys lost in the
NFL championship game to Green Bay, for the right to play in the first two Super
Bowl's. Dallas was the dominant NFC team of the 1970s, going to the playoffs nine
times, playing in five Super Bowl's, and winning two of them. Between 1966 in
1983 the Cowboys made 17 playoff appearances in 18 years. |
