DOLPHINS HISTORY The Dolphins were formed in 1966 as the
ninth member of the American football league. Although they did not win very often
their first several years, they built the nucleus of a strong team, drafting such
players as quarterback Bob Griece, fullback Larry Csonka, and halkback Jim kiick.
In 1970 Don Shula became the Dolphins head coach and immediately turned the team
around. And Shula's first-year Miami improved from a 3-10-1 record to a 10-4 and
a wild-card playoff berth. The next year they were and the Super Bowl. And the
next year they became the only NFL team ever to establish a perfect regular and
postseason record. The Dolphins are among the best coached team in the NFL, and
they lead the lead in fewest penalties almost every year. |
