EAGLES HISTORY the Eagles were founded by Bert Bell and
Lud Wray in 1933 after the state of Pennsylvania repealed a law banning sports
on Sundays. In the late 1940s, the Eagles were one of the best teams in the NFL
history, playing in three consecutive title games in winning in 1948 and 1949,
both by shutouts. In 1960 the Eagles returned to the top, when quarterback Norman
Van Brocklin when, by sheer force of his personality, took a bunch of average
players to the NFL title. From 1978 to 1981 coach Dick for mail made the Eagles
one of the top teams in the NFL, taking them all the way to Super Bowl 15 following
the 1980 season. These teams were led by quarterback Ron Jaworski and wide receiver
of Harold Carmichael, who set an NFL record (since broken) eye-catching a pass
in 127 consecutive games. |
