| HISTORY
OF ATLANTA FALCONS |
| The Falcons joining NFL in 1966, as the leagues 15th team.
They had their first winning season (7-6-1)in 71, but did not make the playoffs
until 1978, when they were a wild-card qualifier; that year they are into their
only playoff victory ever, when they beat Philadelphia 14-13 with two touchdown
passes in the final five minutes of the game. It is generally conceded that the
Falcons greatest player was linebacker Tommy Nobis, who was all so their first
draft selection ever, and the first pick of the entire 1966 draft. In 1980, the
Falcons won their only AFC West title by winning a club record nine games and
a row, to finish with a 12-4 record Atlanta has not had a winning record since
the strike shortened season of 1982. | |
