SEATTLE
SEAHAWKS HISTORY Seattle was one of the two expansion
franchises (along with Tampa Bay) in 1976. The Seahawks were in the NFC West their
first year, before being transferred to the AFC West. Seattle achieved a winning
record (9-7) in only its third year in the NFL, but the Seahawks did not make
the playoffs until 1983, when they hired Chuck Knox as head coach. In their first
year, Knox guided his team to the AFC championship game, and the next year in
the Seahawks recorded their best record ever, 12-4. The Seahawks originally were
primarily a passing team, moving on the arm of quarterback Jim Zorn, but Knox
built a powerful ground attack spearheaded by running backs Curt Warner and John
L. Williams and supplemented by the passing of David Krieg. |
